The Theme of the Day

The Spirit Gives Life
Ezekiel 37:1-14 The Spirit through the preached word raised the dead
Acts 2:1-21 The Spirit gives power to witness in foreign languages
John 14:25-27 The Spirit gives you peace

"Quenching Your Spiritual Thirst"
John 7:37-39b

1. You are thirsty.
Jesus tells us how to quench that thirst.

The Acolyte David Mourey

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Chelsae Armao, Calvin Buuck, Leona Worth, Willis Conrad, and Kelly Mourey.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of the graduates of 2000.  May the Lord bless Sara Des Jean, Julie Heckman, Beth Heimann, Kylene Nidlinger, Jim Buuck, and Tyler Stoppenhagen.  May the Lord be their ever present guide as they enter the world of work or attend college in the fall.

We remember those members of the LWML who will be traveling to Evansville, Indiana for the LWML Convention this Friday through Sunday.  We pray for their safety as well as the success of the convention.

As has been our custom during the summer months, a children's sermon will be a part of our church service on non-communion Sundays.  Today is the first of these sermons.  Parents, please encourage your children to come forward when asked to participate in this message aimed at them.

Dr. Dale Meyer speaks with a former drug lord, a man who is now a Christian but admits that he misses much from his former lifestyle.  This Father's Day message has important truths for every father.  Hear Dr. Meyer's  message, "A Man and His Toys," on the The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on WOWO at 7:35 a.m.  It's also on at 8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM, and at  3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on 1090 on Sunday.

There will be an LYF meeting in the back of church following the worship service this morning.  The booth at Hoagland Days is one topic to be discussed.

The 3rd Annual Friedheim Open will be held on Saturday, June 24, at Cross Creek in Decatur.  Cost for a four-person team is $100.  A meal will again be served.  Registrations were due yesterday.  If you have questions or would like to be a sponsor, please contact Paul Des Jean or Gene Kiess.

There are just a few seats left for the Chicago Bus Trip on Saturday, July 1.  If you would like to attend, please return your reservation form as soon as possible.  The cost is $35.  You may enjoy the 20th annual "Taste of Chicago" and/or the 10th annual "Country Music Festival." in dowtown Chicago.  Shopping and museums are also nearby.  Headliners at the country music festival include Randy Travis and Ty Herndin.  Of course, there will also   be other performers that day as well.  There will also be free line dancing lessons all day long.  Questions?  Contact Cindy Berning (459-6883).

Two important meetings will be held in June concerning the expansion at Wyneken.   On Thursday, June 15, there will be a joint meeting of the church councils from Bingen, Preble, and Friedheim.  They will meet at 8:00 p.m. at Bingen's Fellowship Hall.  On Tuesday, June 20, there will be an informational open meeting at the Wyneken gym from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  (Please note the date and location of the open meeting has been changed.)  On the 20th, you will have an opportunity to look at the proposed expansion plans, ask questions, and give your input.

The men's softball team has two games this week.  They face Flatrock on Wednesday, June 14, at 8:30 p.m. at Hoagland and Zion, Decatur at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16, at Decatur.

Soon the maze will be open.  The Foods Committee has met and is beginning to take donations.  Coke and Pepsi products (especially Mountain Dew) are especially needed.  Hot dogs and hamburger (40 lbs.) are also on the request list.  If you would prefer to give cash and let the committee make the purchase, that would also be helpful.  You may bring your donations to church or contact Tami Stoppenhagen (728-9101) for her to pick up the items from you.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Grab your buckets, rags, and ladders and come to the school cleaning on Monday, June 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Everyone's help is needed and will be appreciated.  The more willing hands, the less time it will take to get the job accomplished.
